routine treatments

New Patient Consultation - At your first visit we will spend a little longer getting to know you and your dental history. We will devise a treatment plan that is designed especially to suit your individual needs. With the use of digital imaging and intra oral cameras the dentist will discuss with you the treatment that is recommended.

Routine Examinations
Adults: we advise you attend every 6 or 12 months depending on your requirements.
Children: generally every six months to monitor dental development.

Digital Imaging (x-rays) - We advise we take routine x-rays every 12 months to ensure we can see as much in the mouth as possible. We are unable to see between teeth and under fillings with the naked eye. This way we may spot a small cavity before you get toothache. We also have an OPG Machine and a CT scanner in the practice to aid with implants and to help patients that gag with normal small x-rays in the mouth.

Oral Hygiene - Good oral hygiene is important to maintain a healthy mouth. You teeth should be clean and free from plaque and tartar; gums should be firm and pink. They should not be red, hurt or bleed when brushed or flossed. A little ongoing care and attention can save you a lot of time, money and teeth in the long run.

Air Polishing - If your teeth are slightly discoloured we may be able to remove stains on the top surface (enamel) of the tooth, with air Polishing. The technique consists of directing a stream or air, water, and Sodium Bicarbonate particles at the tooth surface to be cleaned. This is a great way for removing everyday stains. We advise you try this technique before considering tooth whitening.

White Fillings - Also called composite fillings, these are made from tooth-coloured materials that restore the natural appearance of a decayed or previously filled tooth. They are our filling material of choice. They take longer to place than the old silver fillings but in placing them you are able to save as much tooth structure as possible as they bond to the tooth structure.

Silver Fillings - Fillings are the most common and least expensive form of tooth restoration. Amalgam is a hard-wearing and cost-effective mixture and has been used for many years. We will only place this type of filling at your request and in cases where placing moisture sensitive white fillings prove impossible.

Fissure sealants - These are a preventative measure. A protective coating is placed on children's teeth when the first molars start to erupt around the age of six. They fill in the deep grooves and stop food from sticking and causing early decay. It's made fun and a good exercise to help children relax when coming to the dentist.

Root Canal Treatment - This procedure will effectively save an infected tooth or where the nerve has died from trauma. We painlessly remove the nerve and fill the canals with a rubber (gutta-percha) material, leaving you with a fully functioning pain free tooth. We use the latest rotary files and digital equipment.

Extractions - If no more can be done to save a tooth, we can carefully and painlessly remove the tooth and, if necessary, give you options for its replacement.
